RV Move-In Day!

IMG_3388.jpg

The house is looking more empty than ever, as today, October 28th, we moved our beds to spend the first night in our home for the next year! The kids are beyond excited to get to make their little cozy home in the RV and get out of the now-boring and messy house. They'd leave today if we let them

Tomorrow the plan is to get anything else we need over to the RV in order to stay in Columbia River RV park, and prioritize getting the rig moved over there. We can come back for other things as needed. We have until Sunday here in Portland to finish getting the house ready, then we plan to head to Lynnwood to stay with my parents. I haven't been home since... I think it's been close to a year? It's a long time. I think it'll be good to see them, plus my dad is incredibly handy and has a kitted out garage, so any fixes/upgrades we have time for will be easy in that context. Weather's going to be super cold though.

Today we had both the landscapers and the home repair folks here. The yard looks fantastic, wish I'd hired them a month ago. Home repair is going good, though I had to make two extra errands to get paint and shingles that I didn't get to earlier, or didn't know I needed. Luke's bed got cut 5 inches too narrow, so I had to take that back for a correctly sized replacement.

I filled our water bladder from the house hose, then drove it over to pump into the RV tank. The zero g hose is cool, but doesn't like suction. I had to use Evan's old rigid hose and it worked great. When I turned on the water pump to pressurize, no pressure seemed to be building in the faucets... it was a couple minutes before I heard the dripping from the closet... oh yeah, we have a washer! Oh no! So our washer supply connection wasn't sufficiently secured, and... more water than I would like got sprayed back into the washer cavity in the closet. So I had to pull the washer back out, disconnect, and dry everything I could reach. I'm sure some got back behind the closet boards but... not much we can do about that. Could've been worse? Could've been a lot better, too, but such is life. We're new at this.

The cats have laid really low today after getting their vaccinations updated yesterday. We're leaving them in the house for tonight so they can chill.

COVID issues are already rearing their heads, in conversation with my family about etiquette when staying there. Can we go in the house? Can we share meals? How careful have they been? We're pretty careful - masks and minimal contact, etc - but we occupy completely disjoint social networks, and really REALLY can't afford to get sick right now.
