So, what’s the plan?

Great question! When we tell folks about living full-time in a fifth wheel this year, we’re asked very logical things like, “When do you leave?” and “Where will you go?” We feel like complete flakes when we don’t have answers. When we were first cooking up this crazy idea, the plan was to leave in the late spring of 2021 and have a lovely plan complete with National Park reservations, a delightful but flexible route around the country and all the little details buttoned up beautifully.

But then 2020 happened.

At some point during online schooling and Jon working from home last spring, it occurred to us that we could have essentially the same existence in an RV as we did in our house, only with the bonus of changing scenery! But with National and State Parks in an ever shifting state of accessibility, wild fires, pandemics and other unknowns including our own ability to get on the road, we haven’t been able to make a detailed itinerary. Thankfully RVing can be flexible as long as we are too. So while we might miss out on Yosemite, Glacier or Banff, we will at least see more than the little corner of Portland we’ve been experiencing for the last six months.

“That’s great but really, what’s the plan?”

The current plan is to move everything in our house that isn’t going into the RV into storage in early October. We’ll spend a couple weeks finishing getting the house ready for renters to move in November 1st. By the way, if you know anyone looking for a place in Portland this year, let us know! At the end of October, we will move into the RV and then live for a week or so near Portland to make sure everything is finished up at the house and that we can function in the RV. After that, we’re off! Likely headed south toward the Redwoods and eventually to Southern California. After California, we’ll likely head east, eventually landing in Florida and then swinging north aiming for Michigan. Then we’ll head west working our way back home. But again, all plans are subject to change and that’s the plan!
